Geographical and Historical Position
As the largest, the northernmost and the most populated island of the archipelago, Murter Island is the closest to the coastal resort of Pirovac, connected to the mainland by a short draw-bridge at the small town of Tisno. The beautiful island has four major settlements (Murter, Betina, Jezera and Tisno) and has been inhabited for nearly two millennia, which is not at all surprising considering that just a 20 m wide canal separates it from the neighbouring coast.
