Bay is an evergreen plant celebrated as a holy tree back in ancient times. Its branches were given as a token of utmost honour and glory. Today, apart from being used in horticulture, bay is used as a medicinal plant and as an herb in cooking.

One of the meaty favourites of the Region, the tasty Pašticada with Gnocchi, owes its unique flavour to bay leaves.
